I began my composition speed as a poetess, and I’m motionlessly a poet. So my peregrination into fiction was not in a million years a planned life’s work move. In points, my ahead concise fabliau arrived as a undivided shock. No kidding.
Because I have written and published rhyme in books and magazines for years, I’ve developed a writing list that provides space to note every daytime, always a half hour after breakfast each morning and again after dinner every evening. I also save up a notepad and pen next to the bed to take any lines of poesy if they carry off under the aegis my obey while I gist off to sleep. This means I’ve not just scholastic how to write pages of notes in the black but also how to decrypt those scribbles in the morning.
Surrounding eleven years ago, as I floor asleep inseparable night, several lines on the spur of the moment appeared. Preceding the time when I could referee to wake up and set them down, a astounding trifle flared in my mind like a primitive firecracker: “This isn’t a verse…it’s the beforehand paragraph of a short saga, and I’ve under no circumstances written fiction to come!”
My eyes popped open, I grabbed the notepad, and followed the motif of those lines until I’d written three paragraphs of a short adventures in the dark. That was my chief episode seeing an mythological peculiar in my genius and following her all over, journalism leading article down her words and actions.
All the way through the next year different characters and their stories peopled my mind, and I began scribble literary works and publishing cut in on fiction in magazines. I had not under any condition charmed a composition caste, so when I began calligraphy metrics in my at the crack thirties, I studied the books of coexistent poets, and when all is said developed my own type of uninhabited verse poetry. I approached fiction in the same manner. I understand and studied all the shortened excuse collections I could call up, and at the last created an exploratory arrangement proper for my short fiction, which resembled a prose song composed of segments, each signaling a scene modify or a novelty in a feature’s thought process. Editors loved it, and wellnigh all of my pocket stories appeared in magazines and literary journals. Those stories were in the course of time composed in a rules that sold marvellously someone is concerned varied years.
But two years later, vest-pocket fiction no longer satisfied me, and I began to crave a longer structure of creative depth, like a different or novella. I could withstand a novel percolating within me, but I knew nothing about the characters or plot. With no revelations emerging from my deep-rooted, I sensed this novel needed leisure to occur, so I began editorial poetry again and published a variety of metrics books.
Five years passed, and then equal afternoon the nickname of the novel swiftly sizzled owing to my mind. The next age the crucial quality appeared and announced her name. And on the third era she began tattling her geste, and a story line emerged. At the continually, I had justified started a stylish garnering of versification, but that hardly mattered. I’d been waiting as a service to this unconventional with a view years, and some time ago it arrived I dropped the whole kit, grabbed my notebook (all my first drafts are handwritten), and four months later I had completed a leaving out novel. Years later, I would count up more lay to this novel and republish it as the head in my series of Occult novels for women.
After the absolute dramatis persona in that free essay on point of view pre-eminent novel began speaking, the unimpaired poetry happening flowed despatch in the dead white inspirit of a ingenious blaze. I always allege I’m propitious I remembered to breathe during those wonderful months! But don’t give permission this send you. That was the first and matrix opportunity I had to wait in requital for a novel idea. Now contemporary characters and plot ideas appear every so often, and the day after I exterminate only new I for the most part create the next.
So, how did I send a letter my senior novel? Cardinal, I leak b feign the predominating character acknowledge me who she was and what the primary plot of the best-seller would be. Next, a few subplots emerged. And that was all I needed to start writing. Looking for short stories I on no account old a structured outline. Rather than, I patched those stories together organically, as if they were core swatches in a quilt, jumping pursuing and forth between the previous and present, allowing the characters to intimate me what comes next. If you trade this way too, you’ll sense easy arranging the part and the characters in your head, grabbing your notebook, and then following the characters around, handwriting down their words, thoughts, and actions. However, I establish the language versification design I created fit my short stories wouldn’t work by reason of a novel. It righteous didn’t feel right. So I tweaked and tweaked and developed another speculative format that I inert use today.
As I mentioned sooner than, I do not make use of an outline looking for my novels, but I do select each chapter completely previously I continue. I post like this after two reasons. Elementary, I submit each chapter as a short joke to magazines and literary journals when I complete it, so the story purpose gain publication credits, the compassionate of acknowledgements publishers and agents tenderness to see. Back, polishing each chapter gives me the over and over again to drown myself in the characters and to intuit how the geste should progress into the next chapter. Largest of all, when I use up the mould chapter I set up a perfect tale manuscript. Then it’s justifiable a mean something of current traitorously and adding details to earlier chapters, mighty facts that emerged during the make of theme the novel. Once, I management in unison matrix punctuation and grammar break, and that’s it. I’ve written another blockbuster on tap to be published by at one of my publishers.
If you watch this means, relax, and allow the history to promote organically, you’ll intent up with a flawless primary new manuscript sitting on your computer desk before you identify it. And you’ll enjoy every gradation of the development!
It’s a habit that so many are addicted to, and so am I. I’m talking about nail biting. I do it when I’m bored, nervous or just very out of my comfort zone. At least I did, because for a few weeks now I did not bite my nails at all. Ofcourse that is something I am really proud of, but it took me a long time to get here and still, I don’t know if this will last forever. I have a very long experience of nail biting, which I will share with you today.
A while ago I read an article about nail biting on the Dutch lifestyle blog Versus A. Here blogger Suz told about her experience of nail biting; why she did it and why it was such a strong habit for her. Although at that point I had not bitten my nails for a weeks weeks, I completely recognised myself in her story. It made me want to share my own story, which I will now.
I really don’t know how it started. All I know is that I did not bite my nails one day and the next day I did. I had long periods where I did or did not bite my nails. But in the end I continued doing it. Such a pity; it is a habit that is hard to get rid off. I had so many people telling me to stop, but even if I wanted to, I couldn’t.
In her post Suz talked about all the different ways to get rid of the habit. Many of them, if not all, I tried myself. I had periods that I asked everybody to tell me when I was biting and to make me stop doing it for that moment. I thought if just everybody would tell me all day, I would stop easily. I didn’t. To be honest: It made me annoyed. I found myself walking or turning away from those people for just a few seconds, to make them not see me biting.
Ofcourse I knew that that wasn’t really fair to those people, so I dropped that opportunity to stop. I tried Byte-X, the disgusting tasting nail polish. It definitely makes you notice biting for a few times, but I was too addicted to care. After a while the taste dissappeared, and I was able to bite again.
The only thing that worked, although it was mostly temporary, was polishing my nails. I loved and still love my nails when they look good and have a nice color on it. I sometimes tried to grow them, paint them and enjoy them. I did, for a while. Until the first chip started coming and growing. My main thought was: ‘They’re ugly now anyway; it doesn’t matter anymore.’ Which ofcourse it did.
But, for around 5 or 6 weeks now, I haven’t bitten my nails at all. This sounds like ages for me, and of course it is something that I am really proud of. Two weeks ago I had to clean my nails for a video shooting and I was actually scared that that would make me bite again. But I didn’t, yay! I really hope that this will last forever. Nail biting was something that really belonged to me for years, so in fact these 6 weeks haven’t been long at all. But still, this is a true peak for me and I will defiinitely try hard to keep not biting my nails.
At some point in your life (men), you’re likely going to need to take the plunge and grab yourself a pair of dress shoes. To some, such as myself, his is a terrifying idea that comes complete with nightmares of shopping for hours trying to find the right shoe that will cost to much and only be worn VERY rarely. While there may be no way to easily avoid some of these things, there are some tips you can follow to make the process go as smoothly as possible, get you into the most comfortable shoes possible, and generally make the entire experience as pleasant as possible. If you’re face to face with having to make the purchase, take a look at the tips below and save yourself some grief.
Tips for choosing men’s dress shoes
1) Consider the Event:
Often it’s an event that forces us to take the dreaded action of shoe shopping. When you’re buying men’s dress shoes, it’s especially important to consider the event you’ll be attending. Formal? Semi-formal? More relaxed and casual? Not matter what the situation there is a style of dress shoe that will work better than another. A little research or a short discussion with a sales rep. will help you sort out what might work best for your event.
2) Consider how the shoe can be used in the future:
Dropping 0-0 on a pair of shoes might be easy for some to do, but I personally have an aneurysm every time I think about it. Consolation lies in the fact that the shoe, if flexible in style/color, can likely be used in a variety of situations. If you can, buy something that will work with a variety of outfits and a variety of situations. Sometimes this is practically impossible.
3) consider what you’re wearing:
This is a big time no brainier, but worth mentioning. Make sure your shoe matches whatever you’re doing to be wearing. This guide will be helpful for matching pant color to shoe color. Again some are more flexible than others and might help you get more mileage from the shoes.
4) Check your size:
When you’re trying the shoe on, don’t be afraid to jump around in size, and bring different socks that you might wear with the shoes. If you do the right thing and treat the shoe like an investment (#5), then you’ll need to make sure it’ comfortable. Take a walk around the store if possible and/or check the return policy and try at home for a while if needed. This can save you a lot of pain later…in many ways.
5) Treat it like an investment:
As was just mentioned, treat the purchase like an investment. Take care of the shoes, buy something comfortable, and don’t be afraid to spend a little extra cash to get the right thing if you can. This ultimately can help you save big in the long run. Check the quality here too. Look at stitching, ask about the leather, and look at the details of the shoe as well as the basic construction.
6) Maintain the shoe:
Utilize shoe trees to remove odor and preserve shape (or newspaper like me), be sure to polish and clean as needed and generally do your best to maintain the shoe and likely leather that is on it.
7) When shopping bring the clothing and socks you’re likely to wear:
Simple enough. Don’t guess at what will look good if you have trouble with styles and colors (…me), just bring what you need and test the shoe. Sometimes bringing a friend, girlfriend, wife, boyfriend, cat, or whoever is necessary to make sure you get this right. Just kidding on the cat…leave the cat at home.
Now that you’re well prepared for tackling your dress shoe-shopping task, go forth conquer!
This is the most delicate of all skin types, it may be either dry or oily but will react adversely to harsh soaps, detergents, extreme cold and heat and sometimes even natural ingredients. This type of skin gets easily irritated and is prone to broken veins and redness. Sensitive skin may easily develop allergic reactions to the most common of things and has to be handled with care. This skin type cannot be experimented with and once you know what’s good for your skin just stick to it. Do not be led by fancy cosmetics and fresh arrivals on the tempting cosmetic counters and be very gentle with your skin.
Sensitive Skin’s Cleansing :
Since this kind of skin is prone to rashes and gets affected easily due to internal and external changes, it is important to use very mild cleansing ingredients. You can cleanse the skin with a few drops of coconut oil and wipe off with a moist cotton wool or if your skin is more on the oily side it would be best cleanse it with rose water. This can be used as a cleanser cum toner.
Sensitive Skin’s Moisturizing and Toning :
Sensitive skin can be massaged and moisturized with natural fruit juices. The best would be to combine watermelon juice, coconut water and cucumber juice and store it in a bottle. After cleansing, add 1 teaspoon of honey in one of these juices and massage gently into the skin. You can make a gentle tan face mask which has toning properties in it. Take 2 tablespoons of oatmeals, the juice of 1 lemon, 1 egg and 1 teaspoon fullers earth. Mix together these ingredients with cold milk to make a paste and apply. Leave on for 20 minutes and scrub off with tepid water. Sensitive skin requires regular gentle care so don’t be harsh towards it.
Combination Skin :
This is a peculiar but one of the most common skin types, this type of skin has a greasy area which is found on the forehead, nose and chin, i.e., T-zone and the rest of the area is normal to dry. As the T-zone is very often identified with open pores, blackheads, whiteheads and even pimples and has to be kept scrupulously clean while the other areas like cheeks, neck and the area around the eyes have to be moisturized. The combination skin has to be treated like two separate skin types and this can be done very easily by keeping a clear cut skin routine. Many women become lazy and start treating this type of skin like an oily or dry one for convenience’s sake and to avoid the botheration of being extra careful. This attitude can cause total havoc for this skin.
Combination Skin’s Cleansing :
One has to create the perfect cleansing programme for this skin type by reducing the oilness of the greasy parts and moisturizing the dry areas. Clean the dry areas with cotton wool dipped in cold milk and the oily areas with a camphor lotion. Infact if the T-zone is very oily and prone to blackheads and whiteheads, the best thing to do would be to use cleansing granules made with the following things, 1 tablespoon rice powder, 1 tablespoon fullers earth, 1 tablespoon orange peel powder, 1 tablespoon lemon peel powder. Mix the required quantity with rose water and scrub on the oily areas gently in circular motion and wash with cold water.
Combination Skin’s Moisturizing and toning :
The combination skins need to moisturize the dry areas carefully. Take 1 teaspoon of fresh cream or honey and massage into the dry patches. Leave for 10 minutes and wash off. Tone the entire face by wiping with rose water. A face mask is important and you can use kaolin clay to which you have added lemon juice, honey and 1 egg. Apply all over face and let dry. Wash off with tepid water and rub a rose water ice cube on the oily areas. An exfoliating face scrub made of orange peel powder and rice powder and mixed with rose water is excellent for Combination Skin.
Bathing is very essential for the skin and yet is neglected by many women. Taking out some time to care for one’s beauty routine. Most women follow a five minutes shower ritual and do not even remember when was the last time they actually enjoyed having a bath. It is done like a monotonous, mechanical routine that goes along with other boring household chores like washing clothes, cleaning and cooking.
Create time for yourself with or without your partner, in the bathroom. I feel a bathroom needs to reflect character just like any other room in the house. This is one place which is very private and you have yourself to you completely. Not many women spend much time thinking about their bathroom interiors and it is a pity for even the dingiest of bathrooms can be brought to life with a little thought and creativity.
Decorate your bathroom with colors of your choice, bright happy colors or soft pastels. Full sized mirrors, lush green plants or even dried pot. Fragrant body massage oils, jute massage mittens, sponges, natural loofahs, stone scrubs for those aching feet, pumice stones, back brushes, natural bath bags, dried herbs and flowers for your bathtub, gigantic soft towels are all basic essentials for bathing besides your other toiletries.
Your face is not the only important part of your skin, the entire body requires your undivided attention and loving care to make it smile and feel petal smooth.
Bathe correctly. Most women prefer either very hot or very cold water but it should be neither of these extremes. A warm soapy bath tub with lots of rose petals, 2 tablespoons milk powder and 2 tablespoons of lavender oil feels like pure luxury on dry, tired skin.
You can make our own bath bags at home and store them in colorful airtight porcelain or colored glass containers. These bath bags are excellent for shower lovers as they are easy to use and convenient to keep. All the bath bags have a shelf life of 4 weeks.
Bath Bag For Dry Skin :
- 1 tbsp milk powder
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- 1 tbsp oatmeal
- 1 drop sandalwood oil
- Dried lemon peel powder
Mix all the ingredients together and just put a teaspoon of the mixture in small pieces of muslin cloth and tie each piece tightly with ribbons or string. Store in an airtight container and use whenever required. Rub the bath bag all over the body when bathing and feel how smooth, soft and clean the skin becomes. These bath bags should be discarded after a single use.
Bath Bag For Oily Skin :
- 2 tbsp orange peel powder
- 2 tbsp rice powder
- 2 tbsp mint leaves, powdered
- 2 tbsp lemon oil
- 4 tbsp kaolin clay
Mix together all the ingredients and wrap in a muslin cloth, tied with a ribbon or natural thread like jute or coir rope, store in an airtight jar. Scrub all over the face and body. You will feel fresh, fragrant and clean all over. Most women forget that it is not just their faces that require exfoliating but the entire body. Dead skin can accumulate on any part of the body and it is important to scrub the body until it feels squeaky clean and smooth. You can keep a jar of your favorite scrub on a bathroom shelf and use a handful every time you bathe along with a natural loofah or jute mitten. Always remember that special attention should be given to specific areas like the knees, thighs, buttocks and heels. These usually have more dead skin accumulations and are always in need of attention.
Most women tend to be silent about their skin problems until the problem increases and it cannot be ignored anymore. It is like having a headache and hoping against hope that it will disappear on its own without any help. It will not go away so you have to do something about it. Most of the specific problems that we are going to deal with are those which crop up from time to time. There is nothing known as a permanent skin problem and if you really look after your skin you can solve most of them.
This is one of the most distressing and depressing problems faced mostly by young women. It is usually a result of hormonal changes and an irregular and increased production of oil by the sebaceous glands. Overactive sebaceous glands lead to a greasy looking skin and thickening of the pores. They become blocked and after a while from pimples. Many times these get infected, become red and have pus in them. Keeping your skin scrupulously clean is the magic word and it is important that you do not touch or squeeze the pimples. I knew of a young girl who, once she started her treatment, kept touching the pimples every five minutes to see if they were still there. They do not disappear so easily and it takes time, a very disciplined lifestyle and a regular skin care routine to clear it up.
Acne is a common teenage problem. A clean stomach and regular bowel movements are very important to keep the skin clear and I would advise most teenagers to be careful about this. Constipation must be avoided at all cost and the easiest way to do so is by taking lots of green vegetables like spinach, cabbage, beans, peas, fresh fenugreek, lettuce, etc. Raw foods are a must and a salad and fruits should be served at the beginning of every meal. The reason why we are emphasizing salads and fruits at the beginning is that these raw foods will fill your stomach and there will be little appetite left for the rest of the items. Also important is the fact that raw foods are easily digestible and lessen the chances of constipation. Drink at least ten to twelve glasses of water every day and avoid surgery foods, fried stuff and aerated drinks. Please avoid all junk food. Never make exceptions when you are depressed.
I have come across many people who try to make themselves happier by eating all the wrong things – Sweets, chocolates, junk foods, regretting it later. Even if you do give in to temptation and tend to go overboard one day, you must make sure that you resist all further temptations for the following week. Go in for regular skin cleaning sittings at a good professional salon where the beauticians know what the skin is all about. So many people have come to me after having ‘Peeling’ done on their acne and ending up worse than before. Peeling and scrubbing is to be avoided in the case of pus infected acne or pimples as it will only aggravate the infection. Use natural clay absorbing face packs after cleaning the skin with ice cold rose water. An excellent remedy for acne-prone skin can be made by mixing 1 teaspoon ground cloves with 2 tablespoons fullers earth and ice water. Another effective remedy can be prepared by mixing 2 tablespoons neem paste with 2 tablespoons fullers earth and 2 tablespoons mint paste and then used as a face pack.
Exercise is a must to improve blood circulation. You will see the result of a regular exercise programme being reflected in the way your skin looks. Whenever you return from an exercise work out, rub an ice cube all over the face and neck. Many times dandruff may cause acne especially when the acne is more prominent on the forehead and cheeks. For this it is important that the dandruff be treated alongside. Keep hair away from the face and those of you who enjoy hot oil head massages must wash their hair after a couple of hours and not leave it on overnight.
Acne must be dealt with extremely carefully and there is no harm in young mothers trying to make their teenage children more aware of how to take care of their skin from an early age. I would definitely prevent the anguish and torment most teenagers go through.
Normally I don’t post beauty related articles on TFD, but since a few weeks I really like experimenting with make up again. Because of that I also bought two brand new lipsticks. I felt like I am missing a lot of colours in my lipstick stash, so I will let it grow step by step. To start off with that, I bought two gorgeous lipsticks from L’Oréal Paris, which I will review now.
Hype is a beautiful coral/orange color, which is perfect for every occasion. It is a bright and sweet color. The case is gold, which looks quite luxury. On the USA L’Oréal Paris website they promise the Color Riche lipsticks to be creamy and keep your lips hydrated.
The lipstick definitely is creamy, but I am not sure about the hydrating-thing. My lips are always quite dry, so maybe it was because of that, that I felt tingle my lips after I removed the lipstick. It sure is a cute color, which will be perfect for this summer. I think it looks good with my pale skin, because the lipstick is quite light itself.
Color Riche Exclusive Collection by Blake – Blake’s Pure Red
Wow, this is a deep red color that looks classy! I love it! This is perfect for a party, although I actually wear it to school too. You could actually see this lipstick in my outfitpost from last Friday as well.
I love this one even more than Hype. I have been told not to wear a lipcolor like this when you have a pale skin, but I’ll do it anyway. I think it looks super classy.
I really like both of those lipsticks. There are creamy and gorgeous. My favorite sure is Blake’s Pure Red. I didn’t own any lipstick like this, but I will sure use this a lot. They both stay on for around 4 hours. It that time I ate, drank and talked, so both are definitely keepers. My over-all grade for those lipsticks is an 8/10.
Madrid is one of the few cities in Europe that Daan & I both have never been to, and both really want to go to. But us visiting this Spanish city will soon be reality: This november we will go there for a couple of days. I am so so excited to still go on a vacation after working the entire summer. I am looking forward to it a lot, and – ‘prevacationfunfreak’ that I am – I am allready deciding on where to go and what do to. Here’s is the list of things that are on that list at the moment.
While checking Madrid’s biggest hotspots online, I quickly came accros the weekly flea market El Rastro. Every sunday, this huge flea market takes place. From what I have read there is a great atmosphere, and both locals and tourist love the market. I guess this is the perfect sunday morning activity; casually strolling around the market.
Parque del Retiro
Another perfect activity for a sunday: walking around the biggest park of Madrid, Parque del Retiro. I believe it is huge, and quite busy during the weekend. I can allready see us grabbing lunch somewhere to go and enjoy it anywhere in this park.
Mercado de San Miguel
I love foodmarkets, and where better to go to one than in another country, with other food traditions. Mercado de San Miguel is a big one, with all kinds of food. I am looking forward to taste all kinds of (Spanish) tapas and little bites over here.
Daan is a HUGE soccer fan, and Madrid obviously is a great city for soccer fans. We wanted to go to a game of either one of the two clubs, but apparently it was almost impossible to get tickets. Really too bad, since we were looking forward to it a lot. But of course we still be doing a stadium tour in at least one of the stadiums.
There is something about Churros that makes me love them. I was once told that Spanish people eat these for breakfast a lot. Now, I don’t believe that, but I do know that these things are y-u-m-m-y. I have had them before on the Dutch carnavals, but obviously I need to have them in Spain too.
Have you ever been to Madrid? Do you have any recommendations for me?
